Japanese filmmaker (1910–1998)
Being
Akira Kurosawa (黒澤 明 or 黒沢 明, Kurosawa Akira; March 23, 1910 – September 6, 1998) was a Japanese filmmaker who directed 30 feature films in a career spanning six decades. With a bold and dynamic style strongly influenced by Western cinema yet distinct from it, he is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. Known as a hands-on filmmaker, he was heavily involved with all aspects of production as a director, writer, producer, and editor. Following a brief stint as a painter, Kurosawa entered the Japanese film industry in 1936. After years of working on numerous films as an assistant director and screenwriter, he made his directorial debut during World War II with the popular action film Sanshiro Sugata (1943), released when he was 33. Following the war, he cemented his reputation as one of the most important young filmmakers in Japan with the critically acclaimed Drunken Angel (1948), in which he cast the then-unknown actor Toshiro Mifune in a starring role; the two men would then collaborate on 15 more films. Rashomon (1950) premiered in Tokyo and became the surprise winner of the Golden Lion at the 1951 Venice Film Festival. The film's commercial and critical success opened Western film markets to Japanese films for the first time, which in turn led to international recognition for other Japanese filmmakers. Kurosawa directed approximately one film per year throughout the 1950s and early 1960s, including a number of highly regarded and often adapted films, including Ikiru (1952), Seven Samurai (1954), Throne of Blood (1957), The Hidden Fortress (1958), Yojimbo (1961), High and Low (1963), and Red Beard (1965). He became much less prolific after the 1960s, though his later work—including two of his final films, Kagemusha (1980) and Ran (1985)—continued to receive critical acclaim. In 1990, Kurosawa accepted the Academy Honorary Award. He was posthumously named "Asian of the Century" in the "Arts, Literature, and Culture" category by AsianWeek magazine and CNN, who cited him as one of the five people who most prominently contributed to the improvement of Asia in the 20th century. His career has been honored by many releases in many consumer media in addition to retrospectives, critical studies, and biographies in both print and video.
English association football player (born 1993)
Harry Edward Kane (born 28 July 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and captains the England national team. He is regarded as one of the best players in the world, one of the best strikers of his generation, and one of England's greatest ever players. Kane has scored over 500 career goals for club and country, being Tottenham Hotspur's all-time top goalscorer (280), England's all-time top goalscorer (85), and the highest-scoring English player in the UEFA Champions League (54). He is also the Premier League's second-highest all-time goalscorer (213) and the seventh-highest goalscorer for Bayern Munich (148). Beginning his senior career with Tottenham Hotspur in 2009, Kane had loan spells out to clubs across the English football pyramid, including Leyton Orient, Millwall, Leicester City, and Norwich City. Kane's involvement at Tottenham increased after Mauricio Pochettino became head coach in 2014, being named PFA Young Player of the Year in the 2014–15 season. In the 2015–16 and 2016–17 seasons, Kane finished as the league's top goalscorer. In the latter campaign, he helped Tottenham finish as Premier League runners-up and was named the PFA Fans' Player of the Year. In the 2018–19 season, Kane finished as Champions League runner-up. He ended the 2020–21 season as the Premier League's top goalscorer (23) and top assist provider (14). After 14 years at Tottenham, Kane became the most expensive signing in Bundesliga history as he joined Bayern Munich in a transfer worth €110 million in 2023. In his debut season, he scored 36 league goals, winning the European Golden Shoe. In the following season, he won the Bundesliga title, his first major trophy, and was awarded the Bundesliga Player of the Season. In the 2025–26 season, Kane helped Bayern win the domestic double, scoring a hat trick in the 2026 DFB-Pokal final. During the season, he scored over 70 goals for Bayern and England, the second highest tally in a single season ever. Kane appeared more than 30 times at youth international level and made a goalscoring debut with the senior team in March 2015, at age 21. Since making his debut for England, Kane has been central to one of the nation's most successful periods in international football, helping them reach the semi-finals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, finish as runners-up at UEFA Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, and achieve a third place finish at the 2026 World Cup — their highest since 1966. During this period, he won the World Cup Golden Boot in 2018, finished as the joint top scorer at Euro 2024, and became England's all-time leading World Cup goalscorer with 14 goals.

Correlation between measurements of quantum subsystems, even when spatially separated
Concept
Quantum entanglement is the phenomenon in which the quantum state of each particle in a group cannot be described independently of the state of the others, even when the particles are separated by a large distance. The topic of quantum entanglement is at the heart of the disparity between classical physics and quantum physics: entanglement is a primary feature of quantum mechanics not present in classical mechanics. Measurements of physical properties such as position, momentum, spin, and polarization performed on entangled particles can, in some cases, be found to be perfectly correlated. For example, if a pair of entangled particles is generated such that their total spin is known to be zero, and one particle is found to have clockwise spin on a first axis, then the spin of the other particle, measured on the same axis, is found to be counterclockwise. This behavior gives rise to seemingly paradoxical effects: any measurement of a particle's properties results in an apparent and irreversible wave function collapse of that particle and changes the original quantum state. With entangled particles, such measurements affect the entangled system as a whole. However individual measurement outcomes cannot be controlled, so entanglement alone cannot be used to transmit information. Such phenomena were the subject of a 1935 paper by Albert Einstein, Boris Podolsky, and Nathan Rosen, and several papers by Erwin Schrödinger shortly thereafter, describing what came to be known as the EPR paradox. Einstein and others considered such behavior impossible, as it violated the local realism view of causality and argued that the accepted formulation of quantum mechanics must therefore be incomplete. Later, the counterintuitive predictions of quantum mechanics were verified in tests where polarization or spin of entangled particles were measured at separate locations, statistically violating Bell's inequality. This established that the correlations produced from quantum entanglement cannot be explained in terms of local hidden variables. Entanglement can produce statistical correlations between events in widely separated places, but it cannot be used for faster-than-light communication. Quantum entanglement has been demonstrated experimentally with photons, electrons, top quarks, molecules and even small diamonds. The use of quantum entanglement in communication and computation is an active area of research and development.
