Chinese space station in low Earth orbit
Land
The Tiangong space station (Chinese: 天宫; pinyin: Tiāngōng; lit. 'Heavenly Palace'), officially in English the China Space Station (CSS; 中国空间站; Zhōngguó kōngjiānzhàn), is China's first permanently crewed space station, in low Earth orbit since 2021. Operated by the China Manned Space Agency (CMSA), it is China's third space station, under the Tiangong subprogram of the China Manned Space Program. A space laboratory, it hosts experiments on bioastronautics, microgravity, materials science and space technology. Crews of three travel aboard the Shenzhou spacecraft for missions of about six months, with temporary crew sizes of six during handovers. Cargo missions use the Tianzhou spacecraft. It is one of two operational space stations, alongside the International Space Station (ISS). When China formally requested to join the ISS program in 2007, Roscosmos and the European Space Agency (ESA) supported cooperation with China, but the Wolf Amendment, enacted by the United States since 2011, prohibited Chinese participation. That same year, China launched Tiangong-1, gaining rendezvous and docking experience. In 2016, Tiangong-2 developed longer-term life support systems, and autonomous docking and refueling via Tianzhou. The current station has supported experiments involving researchers from 17 countries; Chinese experiments include atomic clocks, Bose–Einstein condensates, and the agricultural cycle of rice. It hosted the first astronaut from Hong Kong, and China is training astronauts from Macau and Pakistan. Tiangong is the third modular space station, after Mir and the ISS. Its core module, Tianhe, was launched in April 2021 and was followed by the Wentian and Mengtian experiment modules in July and October 2022; The modules were assembled at and launched from Wenchang Space Launch Site, atop Long March 5B rockets. The station has three robotic arms in use and three external Chinese Docking Mechanism ports. Xuntian, a space telescope scheduled for launch in 2027, is designed to periodically dock with the station for servicing and refueling. Orbiting at an altitude of 340 to 450 kilometres (210 to 280 mi) and inclination of 41°, it has a pressurised volume of 340 cubic metres (12,000 ft3), slightly over one third that of the ISS. Shenzhou 12 in June 2021 was the first crewed mission to the station. Shenzhou 15 in November 2022 completed major station assembly and began continuous occupation; later missions have focused on scientific research. Shenzhou 23 is the first attempt at a year-long mission. Tiangong is the first crewed spacecraft to use ion thrusters, for orbital station-keeping, while communications are relayed through the Tianlian satellite network. As of May 2026, 21 spacecraft have docked to the station: 12 Shenzhou and 9 Tianzhou. Crews have made 24 spacewalks, using the Feitian suit, including the longest spacewalk ever, exceeding 9 hours in 2024.
English pirate
Being
Edward Teach (or Thatch; c. 1680 – 22 November [3 December N.S.] 1718), better known as Blackbeard, was an English pirate who operated around the West Indies and the eastern coast of Britain's North American colonies. He remains one of history's most well-known pirates. Little is known about Blackbeard's early life, but he may have been a sailor on privateering ships during Queen Anne's War before he settled on the Bahamian island of New Providence, a base for Captain Benjamin Hornigold, whose crew Teach joined around 1716. Hornigold placed him in command of a sloop that he had captured, and the two engaged in numerous acts of piracy. Their numbers were boosted by the addition to their fleet of two more ships, one of which was commanded by Stede Bonnet, but Hornigold retired from piracy toward the end of 1717, taking two vessels with him. Teach captured a French slave ship known as La Concorde, renamed her Queen Anne's Revenge, equipped her with 40 guns, and crewed her with over 300 men. His nickname derived from his thick black beard and menacing appearance. He was reported to have tied lit fuses (slow matches) under his hat to frighten his enemies. He formed an alliance of pirates and blockaded the port of Charles Town, South Carolina, ransoming its inhabitants. He then ran Queen Anne's Revenge aground on a sandbar near Beaufort, North Carolina. He parted company with Stede Bonnet and settled in Bath, North Carolina, historically known as Bath Town, where he accepted a royal pardon. However, he was soon back at sea, where he attracted the attention of Alexander Spotswood, the governor of Virginia. Spotswood arranged for a party of soldiers and sailors to capture him. On 22 November [3 December N.S.] 1718, following the battle at Ocracoke Inlet, Teach and several of his crew were killed by a small force of sailors led by Lieutenant Robert Maynard. His flagship Queen Anne's Revenge was discovered by divers in November 1996 in Beaufort Inlet off the coast of North Carolina. Teach was a shrewd and calculating leader who spurned the use of violence, relying instead on his fearsome image to elicit the response that he desired from those whom he robbed. He was romanticised after his death and became the inspiration for an archetypal pirate in works of fiction across many genres.
Automobile brand of Germany
Concept
Maybach (German: [ˈmaɪbax] , MY-baakh) is a German luxury car brand owned by Mercedes-Benz. The original company was founded in 1909 by Wilhelm Maybach and his son Karl Maybach, originally as a subsidiary of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH, and it was known as Luftfahrzeug-Motorenbau GmbH until 1999. In 1960, Maybach was acquired by Daimler-Benz. The name returned as a standalone ultra-luxury car brand in 2002, sharing significant components with Mercedes-Benz cars. In 2013, after slow sales, Maybach ceased to be a standalone brand. In 2015, it became a sub-brand of Mercedes-Benz, which the Mercedes-Benz Group owns. As of 2021, Daimler produces an ultra-luxury edition of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class, and the Mercedes-Benz SL under the Mercedes-Maybach name.
National flag of the Republic of Croatia
The national flag of the Republic of Croatia, also known in Croatian as the Tricolor (Trobojnica) or the Red-white-blue (Crven-bijeli-plavi), is one of the state symbols of Croatia. It consists of three equal size, horizontal stripes in colors red, white and blue anchored by the coat of arms of Croatia. This flag has been continuously in use since 1868 using pan-Slavic colors with the white and red checkboard shield added from 1939; which was then replaced by a red star during communist rule before the modern iteration of the Croat flag was adopted in 1990, one year before its independence.
Cross-platform command-line interface and scripting language for system and network administration
PowerShell is a shell program developed by Microsoft for task automation and configuration management. As is typical for a shell, it provides a command-line interpreter for interactive use and a script interpreter for automation via a language defined for it. Originally only for Windows, known as Windows PowerShell, it was made open-source and cross-platform on August 18, 2016, with the introduction of PowerShell Core. The former is built on the .NET Framework and the latter on .NET (previously .NET Core). PowerShell is bundled with current versions of Windows and can be installed on macOS and Linux. Since Windows 10 build 14971, PowerShell replaced Command Prompt as the default command shell exposed by File Explorer. In PowerShell, administrative tasks are generally performed via cmdlets (pronounced command-lets), which are specialized .NET classes implementing a particular operation. These work by accessing data in different data stores, like the file system or Windows Registry, which are made available to PowerShell via providers. Third-party developers can add cmdlets and providers to PowerShell. Cmdlets may be used by scripts, which may in turn be packaged into modules. Cmdlets work in tandem with the .NET API. PowerShell's support for .NET Remoting, WS-Management, CIM, and SSH enables administrators to perform administrative tasks on both local and remote Windows systems. PowerShell also provides a hosting API with which the PowerShell runtime can be embedded inside other applications. These applications can then use PowerShell functionality to implement certain operations, including those exposed via the graphical interface. This capability has been used by Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 to expose its management functionality as PowerShell cmdlets and providers and implement the graphical management tools as PowerShell hosts which invoke the necessary cmdlets. Other Microsoft applications including Microsoft SQL Server 2008 also expose their management interface via PowerShell cmdlets. PowerShell includes its own extensive, console-based help (similar to man pages in Unix shells) accessible via the Get-Help cmdlet. Updated local help contents can be retrieved from the Internet via the Update-Help cmdlet. Alternatively, help from the web can be acquired on a case-by-case basis via the -online switch to Get-Help.
